On Day 3, took a trip to Panama City, a close to 2 hour drive from the resort to the old city of Panama. Panama City is the capital and largest city of Panama. with a population of over 1.5 million in its metropolitan area. Located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal a hub for banking and commerce, often meaning rich people and corporations evading paying taxes in their home country.

Panama City was founded in 1519 by Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias Dávila, the starting point for expeditions that eventually conquered the Inca Empire in Peru. It was a stopover point on one of the most important trade routes in the American continent, through which passed most of the gold and silver that Spain took from the Americas.

The original city, called Panamá Viejo, was destroyed by a fire when privateer (pirate) Henry Morgan sacked and set fire to it. This site of the previously devastated city is still in ruins. The city was reestablished two years later in 1673, on a peninsula 8 km. from the original settlement, today called Casco Viejo, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
