Ottomans, the acropolis of Butrint was abandoned. This castle which was built in the 15th century by the Venetians to defend the fish traps, a key source of food and
income for the settlement. Seized by the Ottomans in 1655 and 1718, it was recaptured by the Venetians, until the Ottomans took over in late 18th century.
