1 In November of 1840, present day Panama declared its independence from Colombia. General Tomás de Herrera, who is portrayed in this equestrian monument, was elected as the first president of the Free State of the Isthmus. The separation was short lived ... the two countries reunited on December 1841.

2 to 7 show the Golden Altar, stained glass and other side altars in Iglesia de San José, built around 1612, moved to the "new" church 1671-1677.

8 is a yet to be reconstructed building in the Casco Viejo.
