Above: The rim of Pico da Cruz, which forms Sete Cidades, with several lakes, a village called Sete Cidades, farmland and numerous hiking trails.
Interestingly, the last eruption in the caldera occurred approximately 500 A.D.

The two crater lakes are referred to by the color of the waters: Lagoa Azul reflecting the sky (blue, background) and Lagoa Verde reflecting the ground (green, foreground). According to legend, the differently colored lakes were created when a princess and her lover, a young shepherd, had to part from each other. The tears they shed at their farewell became the two lakes, with the water colored like their eyes. True story.

1 to 8 show various views from the western rim of the Pico da Cruz caldera of Sete Cidades, with Andy, Donna and moi.

9 ando 10 are maps of the Sete Cidades area, including the hiking trails.
