On Day 2 was a short drive up the mountainside for a 11 km mountain walk up and down from the third highest mountain on Madeira, Pico Arieiro to the highest mountain, Pico Ruivo, then Achada do Teixeira. Nature Meetings booked two full groups of 16 hikers, so we had 2 guides, one in front and one at the rear. The rear is where I and about four others stayed taking pictures, and then hustling to get back to the group. It was pretty cold, the wind was biting when in the open or near a mountain peak. I had a jacket but was the only one who didn't wear it, didn't want to sweat, and I did not. The route was wet from the rains the previous night, and there was off and on drizzle. I packed a raincoat but didn't take it out, my hat kept was quite good at keeping the water off my face. Here are a few pictures from the walk.
