On Day 4, I stayed in Funchal and took the cable car up to Monte, a part of Funchal up the mountainside well known for the Monte Palace, the Botanical Gardens and tobogganing downwards through the streets of Monte. I did the first two of those, because a $40 ride for 10 minutes is just a bit excessive.

This set of pictures includes the cable car up to Monte, then another cable car over to the Botanical Gardens, and back again to Monte.

Above: A swan swims in Infante Park.

1 shows the view into the mountains from the hotel room, today a few clouds in the sky.

2 and 3 show Infante Park on Infante Street.

4 and 5 show the terminal in central Funchal for the cable car up to Monte, the northern part of Funchal ...
it's 9:30 a.m. and there are no lineups and many of the cars are empty ... I went up in mine by myself.

6 to 12 show views of Funchal from the cable car up to Monte ... #6 and #11 south, #8 and #10 north, #7 and #9 east, #12 west.
