Day 1, arriving in Athens after a stopover in Paris, and then the long drive to Hotel Arethusa. Visited the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary,
built 1842-1862, and the Church of St. Eleutherius right next door, built in the 1400's. Then it was a walk to Anafiotika, an old workers area settled in the mid-1800's by
workers from the Greek islands brought in to work on King Otto's palace, located against the northeast side of the Acropolis hill. Then it was back to the hotel, an Octopus
dinner at Ella Restaurant and then a walk to the Greek Parliament Buildings, seeing the changing of the guard, the guards wearing the unusual Tsarouchia shoes with pom poms.
