Dominican Republic

Dominicans called bars "car washes" - actually one bar we passed had old tire strewn all over it's front lawn. The first pictures you see are in a sugar cane plantation. The guide told us they get a ridiculously low $25 per ton from the U.S. sugar company which owns the plantation, and pay wages that most Dominicans won't take for the back-breaking work involved, so Haitians are brought in to work the fields, and a good number of them leave the job within months to flee to hide and get work in the hills or in the cities.

The latter pictures are upon our arrival into the city of Higuey.
