Day 6, we left La Fortuna to go to the mountain town of Monteverde. They are actually pretty clsoe, but the road has to go around the man-made Lake Arenal, a 33 km long body of water that provides Costa Rica with about 30% of its power.

In the afternoon, we explored around Monteverde on our own. First we walked the Ficus Root Bridge Trailhead, a trail that features a ficus tree that forms a bridge across the river that runs through the town. Then we walked into the city centre and for a little lunch and a walkabout. 1 to 6 ... show another delicious breakfast, and views during our drive through the mountains, including a map showing the highway north of Lake Arenal to get there, instead of being able to go the short distance straight there on the east side of the lake.

7 to 10 ... Lake Arenal, a 33 km long lake formed by a dam that provides about 30$ of Costa Rica's electrical power.

11 ... one of many car repair shops that seemed to be all over the country.
