Social Justice Week
April 18-22, 2016

Aquinas celebrated a very busy Social Justice Week. The week featured WWF CEO and former Toronto Mayor David Miller speaking to an overflow group of students in the library about climate change, the recent Paris Climate conference results and saving animals. Also on hand was a former Aquinas student, Agata Gerroir (Mytkowski) to talk about "My Plastic Journey" and also to speak about ecological and social justice literature. The week ended with a talk about Covenant House and the work they do in Toronto in helping at risk teens get back on track. On Thursday, a group of students who went on the Cambodia Trip this past winter sponsored the awareness campaign, "Who Made My Clothes", hoping to make students aware of the harsh conditions many workers, and often very young workers, find themselves in creating the Brand Name products we purchase. Also included are murals created by RAP art students based on social justice themes, plus garbage cans painted with ecological images placed throughout the school. On page one are images of the WWF poster from Paris Climat 2015, and the Eugene Delacroix painting from the Louvre museum that inspired it, and certainly a more beautiful work of art there than Mona what's her name, "La Liberté guidant le peuple" (Liberty Leads the People).
