Ottawa Bluesfest
July 16, 2016

The lineup at Bluesfest this year - not awesome. But we went out . Nelly - not bad at, singing some of his hits such as Hot in Herre and Dilemma. But the group went mainly to see Duran Duran. The show features some interesting visuals and lights. The concert started well with Paper Gods from their newest CD, and even Hungry Like A Wolf sounded quite good. Pressure Off, from the new CD was fine. Ordinary World and Come Undone were highlights, well done ballads without the Duran Duran bombast - Do You Believe in Shame is another of their songs I quite like, but they did not play it. They did a nice job of David Bowie's Space Oddity.

And then it was downhill. They spared us the awful Union of the Snake, but did not spare us The Reflex, both candidates for being among the worst songs of all-time. And The Reflex has not improved with age. Never been a big fan of Girls on Film, Rio or most of their other big hits which dominated the second half of the concert, and I don't think their attempts at funky work that well.

But the audience there very much liked what they heard. So, the band and backup singers and extra musicians were energetic and entertaining, and put on a good show, but it really helps if you like Duran Duran music.
