This page features various views of Gullfoss Waterfall. Originally the waterfall and surrounding lands were privately owned. Several capitalists who wished to build a dam with turbines to generate electrical power tried to persuade the owner to sell. When he refused to sell, they obtained permission from the government to build their dam. Upon hearing about this, the owner's daughter walked all the way to Reykjavik and threatened to throw herself over the falls if the Legislature did not rescind the sale. The capitalists allowed their option to build expire, and the falls is now owned by the government for all to see.
