Che Guevera featured on a propaganda sign - his image more often used than even Fidel's
Sign commemorating M 27-6, the Movement of July 26th, which began after a failed attack on July 26, 1953 on President Batista's Cuban troops. The group led by Fidel Castro out of Mexico, returned December 2, 1956 with 82 men, and only 12 survived a battle with the Cuban army. They regrouped in the Sierra Maestra mountains, and by January 2, 1959, their "people's" army had prevailed as Bastista fled the country on New Year's Eve. Fighting still persisted into 1961, including the Bay of Pigs fiasco, which the U.S. still claims it had no part in.
Rice fields. Cubans' meals morning, noon and night consists of rice, bean soup (which isn't bad, but not everyday), some fruit, and occasional meat for supper, usually pork, fish or chicken. Cubans are also provided with free housing, free medical services, free dental services, free mandatory elementary and high school education, free university for those who qualify, free busing to work, and one TV per household. In return, all Cubans, male and female, have some kind of employment, and earn a measly 6-12 Pesos per month for regular work, or about 7.50-15 Canadian dollars. Some, such as doctors and engineers, earn a bit more, and get extra benefits like better housing.
"Images of the People" billboards, which are all over the place
Another progaganda billboard, although it's nice not seeing all the commercial advertising anywhere
