Aquinas Film Festival 2007 Information

Are you interested in making or appearing in your own student film?

Well, now is your chance! Grab a camcorder, write your own script, get some of your friends and fellow students, and create your own film. You should aim for a short film length of under 15 minutes.

Below are the key dates, which will be added to as time progresses, and the Film Festival Guidelines. To obtain more information or receive the information and entry forms, see Mr. Chambers, or discuss with festival jurists Mr. Loreto, Mrs. Loreto, Mrs. Deberardinis or Mr. Tobin.

Key Dates

Festival Entry Form Due:

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Completed Film Due:

Thursday, April 19, 2007

Tentative Viewing Week Starting:

Monday, April 30, 2007

Guidelines

1. The film, including credits, should be 15 minutes long, with a 20 minutes long maximum.

2. Content should be G or PG (3 sh*ts tops), suitable for viewing by people 14 years old and up in the Aquinas community.

3. More specifically, there should be no nudity, gratuitous use of bad language or gratuitous, gory violence. Content will be judged as to acceptability at the discretion of the judging panel.

4. The screenplay and content should be original material, not adapted from a literary or film source. You may allude to other materials or create satire. NO COPYWRITTEN MUSIC should be used. Music in the public domain, such as older classical music, is fine.

5. Format for entries: DVD

6. A filmmaker can enter only one film in the festival. However, a filmmaker may work in other films as actor or crew.

7. Directors, screenplay writers and the main actors must be Aquinas students.

8. Students are to respect all laws when filming, such as no B&E's or "jackass" style stunts. There should be no personal attacks, but the use of satire is fine. No animal or person should be harmed in the making of your film.

9. The copy of your film that you enter must not be your master copy. Your entry will not be returned to you, but kept by the school for posterity.

10. A panel of judges will screen all films submitted. Their rulings on guidelines being adhered to or broken, or on any disputes, are final.

11. Make the film you wish to make, and do not tailor it to what you think the judging panel might like. Your film quality will likely suffer if you do.

12. Tentative List of Awards:
Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Documentary, Best Original Music, Best Marketing

13. Awards will only be given to Aquinas students.

14. Films, along with their entry forms, should be submitted to Mr. Chambers in Room 313 or Room 326.
